This fresh, upbeat, and deftly profound book joyfully reconnects the fullness of our lives and the depth of our prayer. Much more than yet another book about a great saint who once was, it actually rekindles something of St. Teresa’s outrageous spiritual impulse for contemporary readers, particularly those who describe themselves as “spiritual, not religious.” Tessa Bielecki shows how Teresa’s vibrant natural life was the foundation of her mystical one, then sympathetically explores the captivating sensuousness of her mystical growth. She presents Teresa’s “bridal mysticism”—a powerful approach to experiencing God as spouse—in a way that inspires both men and women, and concludes with practical advice on how the contemplative life ripens into “the ultimate ecstasy” through service in the world. This new edition of Holy Daring—revised and updated for new readers in honor of the 500th Anniversary of St. Teresa’s birth—will be an abiding source of inspiration to all who want a fuller, deeper, meaningful, and balanced life. “There is no better guide to Teresa of Avila’s spirituality than Tessa Bielecki … The accessibility of Tessa’s language makes Teresa’s life and work—her very being—relevant to those of us who want to answer the impulse to live a life that is both deeply human and holy.” — V. K. Harber, co-founder, Samdhana-Karana Yoga A Healing Arts Center “Tessa’s deep intimacy with Teresa of Avila permeates this beautiful book and creates an invitational space for readers of any tradition (or none) to enter into their own transformational relationship with the ‘wild woman of Avila.’” — Mirabai Starr, translator of St. Teresa’s The Interior Castle and The Book of My Life, author of Caravan of No Despair and God of Love

Recently, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of St. Teresa’s death, I heard that Tessa Bielecki had updated and re-released “Holy Daring.” Having read the book several times twenty years ago, I was happy to read it once again. This time, the experience was like slowly drinking my favorite Chardonnay. The words slipped down into my body warmly and gently, enlivening my blood, “exquisitely delicious and divinely intoxicating,” in the author’s own words. Tessa Bielecki has actually written three books about St. Teresa, her namesake, and I have read them all. But “Holy Daring” has remained my favorite. The author not only plumbs the depths of all of the writings of St. Teresa, but also portrays the great saint as delightfully alive and infinitely loveable. . .”an earth mother and earthy mystic, a poet and a brilliant administrator, a shrewd politician and a good friend. . . stunning to look at. . .out-going, cheerful, charming and scintillating in her conversation.” (3) I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to know more about contemplative living and the real meaning of mysticism. Bielecki's insights and zest for living will take you by surprise, a unique blueprint for living an abundant life.Product details

Holy Daring Conversations with St Teresa the Wild Woman of Avila Tessa Bielecki Adam Bucko 9780692527733 Books Reviews
This book introduces the reader to St. Teresa as a real person, down to earth in her spirituality, humorous, wise, filled with a zest for life. We get to know her, and Tessa, as strong women, leaders, each of them enjoying a rich and complex inner life as well as an active life in the world in Tessa's words, embodying a blend of "contemplation and sacred activism." The life of Teresa as portrayed here is perhaps best summed up in this idea "if she prayed well, it's because she lived well." We can learn much about both praying and living in this very readable portrait of a remarkable woman.
